Adrenaline Easy Installer 1.09 released – Adrenaline-3.1 support

$

0

Easter is over but as you might have heard, Adrenaline-3 has been released and it’s quite a major release! PSX support, save state support and the fact that it became open source are all very big things which make Adrenaline probably the best eCFW for the Vita on any firmware. That being said, it still may be a tad annoying for some to install it. That’s where ‘Freakler”s homebrew saves the day!

What’s Adrenaline Easy Installer?

As the name suggests, it’s a homebrew that makes installing Adrenaline a breeze. It lets you install Adrenaline on any PSP game/demo you have by taking care of doing stuff underneath the hood itself. It can also install a PSP basegame if you don’t have a PSP game so it’s got you covered. Apart from installing Adrenaline, it can uninstall it, install a custom theme and download the required PSP 6.61 update for Adrenaline itself .

What’s updated/got changed in version 1.09?

The following things got updated/changed:

  • Update 1.08 : Support for Adrenaline-3
  • Update 1.08 : Flash files are no longer reset when upgrading/downgrading as it’s not needed
  • In 1.09 : Support for Adrenaline-3.1

As one may see, the changes are pretty straightforward but that’s the beauty of this homebrew. It’s there to make your life easier and it succeeds in doing just that. Simply follow the instructions on screen and that’s it!

How do I get it?

Installing it on your Vita is pretty easy too. Just download the VPK from the link below, copy it to your Vita and install it via VitaShell. Remember, this is a system utility so without a doubt, it’ll require unsafe permissions; that means that you should get it from a verified source as homebrew has contained malware in the past. It will probably be updated on VitaDB for download via VHBB soon enough. Report any issues pertaining to the installer to Freakler in a civil way on GitHub. Any issues with Adrenaline are to be reported to the TheFlow.

TheFlow, of course, seems to have a hard time taking breaks. Now, he presents us with the 4th update to Adrenaline after releasing Adrenaline-2,3 and 3.1 in a short period of time. Adrenaline-4 brings about quite a few fixes and features pertaining to the PSX emulator so you really ought to upgrade to this release if you plan to do any PSX gaming on your Vita.

What’s Adrenaline-4?

Adrenaline is an eCFW for the PSVita’s built-in PSP emulator that lets you run all PSP games and homebrew. Apart from that, you may use plugins, homebrew that needs 64MB of RAM and you have access to full XMB! Adrenaline also lets you apply filters to your games, use savestates amongst other things.

What’s changed in Adrenaline-4?

This is the changelog of Adrenaline-4 and 3.1:

  • Sound issues after exiting PSX games are fixed
  • Support for CWCheat for PSX games has been added
  • Custom graphic filters can now be used with PSX games
  • Screen mode adjustment has been added for PSX games (read the changelog at the bottom of this article for more info)
  • Screenshot support for PS1 games has been added
  • The network update feature now can search for Adrenaline updates for easy updating!:o
  • Various bug fixes

The update, especially for PSX lovers, is quite a big one so it’s recommended to upgrade immediately. You can use various methods to update to this version.

Conclusion:

Installing Adrenaline-4 is quite simple; you may either use Adrenaline Easy Installer 1.10 (1.10 is needed for Adrenaline-4 support) or you can install it yourself via editing taiHEN’s config file and dropping the plugin yourself. Adrenaline requires Vita FW 3.60, works on any PSVita and the PSTV and needs taiHEN.

Note: PSX means Playstation 1/PS1

Adrenaline Easy Installer 1.10 released – Adrenaline-4 support

With Adrenaline updates being frequent, you may have found yourself wanting to upgrade/downgrade the plugin so Adrenaline Easy Installer is the best solution for you! Now, it’s updated with Adrenaline-4 support too.

What’s Adrenaline Easy Installer?

As the name suggests, it’s a utility that lets you install Adrenaline, the infamous eCFW by TheFlow. It’s not that simple however. You may also install a PSP base game if you don’t have one (or a PSP demo), upgrade/downgrade Adrenaline, install a cool LiveArea theme for the Adrenaline bubble and much more. It’s become quite a fully featured piece of homebrew. That being said, it may lose some of its importance since Adrenaline can now be updated by the ‘Network update’ feature in XMB. Adrenaline Easy Installer won’t become useless even to power users tho as it provides a lot of extra functionality as mentioned.

What changed in Adrenaline Easy Installer 1.10?

This is the changelog in layman’s terms:

  • Adrenaline-4 is now supported
  • You can delete save states made by Adrenaline

Adrenaline-4 support is a major thing so you should update if you plan to use Adrenaline Easy Installer. If you have an older version of Adrenaline installed, upgrading it is easy! Just press follow the on-screen instructions for a normal install, press the PSP game you have Adrenaline on and viola! This utility takes care of everything for you 🙂

How do I get it?

You simply need to install it on a 3.60 taiHEN-enabled Vita or Vita/PSTV. You may get it from Vita Homebrew Browser (it’s already been updated) or via the link below. This utility does system administration tasks so get it from a safe source such as VHBB or the official GitHub link! Report any issues about the installer to Freakler on GitHub as he’s the developer of this homebrew.

Ever 17: The Out of Infinity English Beta Patch for PSP released

$

I don’t know but the name of this visual novel is a tad on the odd side for me… The PSP never dies as game translations keep surfacing up from time to time. This time, it’s Ever 17; a visual novel that’s available on the Dreamcast, PSP, PS2, PC amongst other consoles. It only got an English translation for one platform for some reason and that’s the PC.

What’s Ever 17?

It’s a Japanese visual novel in which you choose between various options in order to progress in a story. Originally released in 2002 on the Dreamcast and the PS2; it got various other ports but only in Japanese. That was until the 2005 port for the PC in English. Now, 8 years after the game was poeted to the PSP; western audiences can finally play it! The game revolves around two guys that were trapped in an underwater theme park along with some other people that’s set to blow up in 119 hours due to high water pressure.

How do I get it?

First of all, this is a translation of a PSP game with files from the PC English version. This means that you need a PSP that’s on CFW to run the patched ISO; and obviously you can play it on your PSVita via Adrenaline and probably ARK. These are the instructions in a nutshell:

  1. Download the patch from the link below
  2. Unzip the patch in a seperate folder
  3. Copy your Ever 17 game ISO into the folder of the patch
  4. Drag the ISO onto ‘patch.bat’
  5. Profit! (Copy the game over to your PSP/Vita and play!)

Due to the use of .bat files, this of course requires a Windows machine (WINE may or may not work). Say thanks to user ‘MrComputerRevo’ of GBATemp forums and the translators of the PC game for this patch 🙂

Phlipple and L’Abbaye des Morts ports for PSP released

$

0

Yes, the releases in the title are about 2 months old but they’ve went under the radar. While most of us are interested about the PSVita’s hacking scene, it’s not too hard to forget that the PSP’s hacking scene is still somewhat alive.

What’s Phlipple?

Phlipple is a 3D puzzle game that’s been ported to the PSP by developer ‘bomblik’. The developer is more well known for his BlockOut II port for the Vita and GNU Robbo ports, both of which were GekiHEN contest entries. The goal of this game is to reduce a 3D shape to a single square by flipping around the edges of the shape. It’s a relatively interesting concept that you should check out if you wish to try out something new.

Phlipple screenshot on PSP

What’s L’Abbaye des Morts?

This is a port of a game by the Spaniard ‘Locomalito’ to the PSP by /talk user ‘HCF’ (no, it’s got nothing to do with math). L’Abbaye des Morts is a 2D platformer with chiptune music and a high difficulty level as you can’t save but you have to play it in ONE sitting. Good luck doing that but it should be fun for a while 😉

L’Abbaye des Morts

How do I get them?

Simply follow the links below and download the archives and extract them to ms0:/PSP/GAME or the directory you use for your homebrews (it may be different if you use a plugin for sorting homebrew). These pieces of homebrew should work on all PSPs with CFW and of course, you may play them on your PSVita with Adrenaline or ARK.

6.61 Adrenaline 4.1 released!

$

It seems that ‘TheFlow’ simply can’t stop developing for our beloved console. Thanks to Adrenaline, FW 3.60 has become the superior firmware and this allows everyone to make the most of their PSVita. Adrenaline, probably his most mentioned release, has been updated to version 4.1.

What’s Adrenaline?

Adrenaline is an eCFW that via taiHEN can do more amazing stuff than older eCFW hacks did. Apart from getting XMB, being able to play homebrew, PSP games and simply use your PSVita as a PSP, you can make use of various other features. These are the features that Adrenaline brings to the table:

  • Screen filter support
  • Savestate support (even works for PSX games)
  • PSX support
  • 64MB support
  • Ability to use USB Mode to access ux0 via the PSP emulator
  • Plugin support
  • Ability to use the Vita’s right analogue stick with games if they have a plugin that enables this. Camera Patch Light has a whole slew of patches to make best use of the right analogue stick in PSP games
  • Ability to update Adrenaline via the Network Update feature in XMB
  • Much more (and more may come in the future since ‘TheFlow’ kinda doesn’t really like to stop developing for the Vita)

What’s been updated/changed in Adrenaline 4.1?

Adrenaline version 4.1 has the following changes:

  1. A bug was fixed in which the recovery menu wouldn’t open if you pressed the R trigger when you opened Adrenaline
  2. Fixed an issue with the memory card mounting routine to avoid some savedata corruption
  3. The incorrect scaling of some PSX games with the PSTV is corrected

As you may see, this is mostly a bug fix update but it’s recommended you update to it especially since it’s relatively easy now. Avoiding some savedata corruption is always a good idea in my books!

How do I get it?

You can do the following things to download the update from Adrenaline itself:

  1. Go to Network Update in XMB and then choose ‘Update via Internet’
  2. You will have to set up a connection if you haven’t already done that
  3. Follow the instructions on screen to update Adrenaline

If you haven’t already got Adrenaline on your system, it’s recommended you use ‘Freakler’s’ Adrenaline Easy Installer as it works relatively well. It has already been updated to accommodate v4.1

PSP Homebrew Browser for PS VITA

$

Developer Arkanite, the developer behind VITA Homebrew browser along with with devnoname120 has released yet quite an other useful application for the Playstation VITA. This time it was done by himself and serves us with the ability to download PSP homebrew for our PS VITA’s that are running Adrenaline. It is also worth noting that the current application is under beta stage so you may be bound to find some bugs. Due to this being first public release, the current homebrew database is rather small at the moment, however this will change with upcoming updates as more homebrews are tested.

Beta Release Change-log:

  • Download and install PSP homebrew directly on your PS Vita.
  • Download que, will handle downloads and installs for you while you’re browsing.
  • Install to ux0 or ur0 pspemu directories.
  • Background data retrieval for a smooth browsing experience.
  • Preview galleries with homebrew information.
  • Direct switching to Vita Homebrew Browser.

Arkanite has also been teasing this homebrew for a while on his twitter page. It’s nice to see that it has finally made an appearance in the PS VITA scene.

Developer Arkanite has also insisted that to request features. You can do so by submitting an issue on their GitHub. There are already some enhancments being worked on, so be sure to not submit any duplicates! I can certainly see this is a homebrew essential for the PS VITA. For more information, you can find the original thread here: https://forum.hackinformer.com/viewtopic.php?f=111&t=1044

6.61 Adrenaline-4.2 released – ISO sorting with Game Categories Lite

$
0
0

Like Adrenaline v4.1, this is yet another minor update. That means that ‘TheFlow’ is still looking how to improve our user experience and since you can update via the network update, there’s really no reason not to update.

What’s Adrenaline?

Adrenaline is probably the most popular hack that runs in taiHEN 3.60. Thanks to Adrenaline you may do the following on your hacked PSVita/PSTV:

  • Play PSP games and homebrew
  • Run homebrew that needs 64MB of RAM
  • Use PSP plugins and the recovery menu
  • Use the original PSP XMB with all the features
  • Do savestates
  • Apply screen filters to your games
  • Use the right analogue stick if your the game you wish to play has a patch (Camera Patch Lite has a lot of patches)
  • A lot of other features that make the Vita superior over the PSP.. at being a PSP

What’s changed/got updated in 6.61 Adrenaline-4.2?

The following bug fixes have been implemented:

  • Support for sorting PSP ISO/CSO games with the ‘Game Categories Lite’ plugin. If you use this plugin, you can sort your PSP games into sections because before the only way to get ISOs to show up was the use the Uncategorised section.
  • The English Patch for Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep now works properly

This, obviously, is a relatively minor update but I suggest you update to get the latest bug fixes!

6.61 Adrenaline-4.2 update process

How do I get it?

You can use the Network system update function via XMB (like normal PSP updates). If you use this, you must do a new access point as dummy access points like Adrenaline 4.1 required don’t work anymore (for me at least). When you do a new access point, it works as it would normally on a PSP. If you’re installing it for the first time, I suggest using Adrenaline Easy Installer 1.13 which is updated for 6.61 Adrenaline-4.2. The image of this article has the CXMB plugin with the Ika Musume (Squid Girl) theme that is not included in Adrenaline!

Changelog + download link (for manual installation): https://github.com/TheOfficialFloW/Adrenaline/releases/tag/v4.2

Adrenaline Easy Installer (requires system permissions so get it from a trusted source like this one): https://github.com/Freakler/vita-AdrenalineEasyInstaller/releases/tag/v1.13

N.B: If you use savestates, they’ll disappear when you update! You can fix this by installing Adrenaline States Manager (covered a few hours ago on Wololo) and changing the save state version. It should work well as it’s okay with Chrono Trigger.

6.61 Adrenaline-5 for the PSVita released

$
0
0

Like Adrenaline-4.2, this is yet another minor update so think of it more of Adrenaline-4.3. It’s mostly a bug fix release but since it’s pretty easy to update via network update, you should still update 🙂

What’s Adrenaline?

Adrenaline is probably the most popular hack on the PSVita by far. It allows you to do various things such as:

  • Run PSP/PSX games with full sound
  • Apply filters to the screen
  • Do savestates
  • Run homebrew, even homebrew that requires 64MB of RAM (Homebrew for the PSP Slim or newer)
  • Use the full XMB (the PSP’s system UI)
  • Update Adrenaline itself via the Network Update option in the Settings section of XMB
  • Use Plugins
  • Much more

What’s updated/changed in 6.61 Adrenaline-5?

This release brings about the following features/changes:

  • An option called ”Hide DLC’s in game menu’ is now available in the Adrenaline menu
  • The ‘Original’ graphics filter has been re-added as it caused some issues with PSX/PS1 games.
  • An icon bug that was introduced with Adrenaline-4.2 has been addressed.
  • An issue in which the framebuffer became corrupted after loading a savestate is now fixed.
  • The Adrenaline icon is now hidden in the game menu.

As you may see, all the changes are relatively minor but bug fixes are still important. Thanks to networking updaitng, you can install 6.61 Adrenaline-5 really easy so a bug fix like this should be applied ASAP.

How do I get it?

As mentioned, the easiest way is via the network update option in XMB. If you don’t have Adrenaline installed or want to re-install it for some reason, you can use Adrenaline Easy Installer by ‘Freakler’ as it makes the process very simple even if you don’t have a PSP game/demo installed.

Adrenaline Easy Installer version 1.14: https://github.com/Freakler/vita-AdrenalineEasyInstaller/releases/tag/v1.14

NOTE: Savestates from an older version can’t be used after updating. This can be fixed by installing Adrenaline States Manager on your PSVita and changing the version to 5.0 (Major version 5, Minor version 0) as to preserve your save states. It’s recommended you do a proper save before updating to Adrenaline-5.

GTA Remastered Controls Patch v2 released for PSVita/PSTV

$

0

Somehow, GTA Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories got ported to (Update: woops, these got not ported to the PSP, they were made and released for the PSP, then later on ported to other consoles) developed for the PSP back in the days. While that’s enough of a feat that was pulled off by the developers, the PSP lacks the right analogue stick which makes controls a tad annoying. Thanks to TheFlow, we can play GTA VCS/LCS on our Vita with better controls!

What’s the GTA Remastered Controls Patch?

GTA VCS/LCS are the only GTA games that you can play on the Vita directly so they obviously deserve this treatment. Thanks to this plugin by ‘TheFlow’, you can play GTA LCS/VCS on your Vita via Adrenaline with much better controls. Camera control is much easier with this plugin as you don’t need to fiddle around with only one analogue stick. GTA Remastered Controls really makes the PSVita the best way to enjoy GTA LCS/VCS on the go as iOS/Android devices aren’t really good to play GTA games on since touch controls aren’t really too adequate.

GTA VCS on the Vita. From TheFlow’s Twitter

What changed in GTA Remastered Controls Patch v2?

This is the what changed:

  • If you change invert look options in the menu, they’ll also affect the right analogue stick (that’s not found on the PSP)
  • You can now press the L trigger while slow aiming as it didn’t work before because of a bug
  • Flying planes and helicopters now work properly since before, the R trigger was used for both acceleration and rotation

After v2 was released, v2 fix was released which fixes compatibility issues with some regions of the GTA games. It’s recommended you do this update for the bug fixes.

How do I get it?

Obviously, you must have the GTA VCS/LCS PSP game on your PSVita with Adrenaline. Installation is pretty simple if you follow these steps:

  • Copy the file ‘gta_remastered.prx’ (plugin) at “ux0:pspemu/seplugins/gta_remastered.prx” on your PSVita/PSTV
  • Add “ms0:/seplugins/gta_remastered.prx 1” (without the inverted commas) to “ux0:pspemu/seplugins/game.txt”
  • Open the game and enjoy!

As you can see, the procedure is exactly the same as to when you install a game plugin on the PSP. To get the plugin, just follow the link below. Report any issues to ‘TheFlow’ on GitHub or Twitter. Have fun playing GTA VCS/LCS on the go!

Adrenaline Bubble Booter released! Boot PSP games directly from LiveArea on 3.60 with Adrenaline

$
0
0

The day has finally come! Thanks to Adrenaline Bubble Booter, you can now load PSP/PSX games and homebrew directly via LiveArea.

What’s Adrenaline Bubble Booter?

As the title suggests, it’s a passthrough that lets you have shortcuts (in the form of bubbles) from LiveArea to directly boot PSP/PSX games and homebrew. This is a feature that was available on some older firmwares with their ePSP hacks and with ARK Autoboot. Thanks to this plugin, you can get the superior PSP/PSX experience with Adrenaline which includes features such as extra screen filters, savestates and much much more. You can always exit to the PSPs XMB by pressing the PS button and pressing ‘Yes’ like Adrenaline. This doesn’t change the bubble’s appearance so you need fo take care of that yourself. This is simply a shortcut so you can use something like Bubble Studio to do that.

MolecularShell menu to reload taiHEN’s config.txt. Press START to open it.

How do I get Adrenaline Bubble Booter on my system?

The process is pretty straightforward but you it’s recommended you read it at least twice to make sure you understand it properly

  • First of all, download the RAR file from the link below
  • Extract the RAR file and copy the whole ‘adrbblbooter’ to ux0: (your Vita’s main memory partition, will probably work with ur0)
  • Add ‘ux0:adrbblbooter/adrbblbooter.suprx’ before the Adrenaline plugin in the config.txt section of the bubble you’re using for this
  • (If want to bypass the Adrenaline start image, add ‘ux0:adrbblbooter/adrbblbooter_nostartdat.suprx’ instead of ‘ux0:adrbblbooter/adrbblbooter.suprx’)
  • Now, reboot your device or reload the taiHEN config file via MolecularShell
  • After that, go to ‘ux0:adrbblbooter/bubblesdb’
  • Create a text file with the TITLEID of the PSP game you’re using as a passthrough. You must write in the TITLEID of the bubble on your Vita NOT of the game you wish to open.
  • Open the text file (.txt) you created and write in the path to the ISO/CSO/PBP you wish to open via the passthrough. The path must be via ‘ms0:’ (from ux:pspemu) and not ‘ux0:’. This is an example: ‘ms0:/PSP/GAME/FILER/EBOOT.PBP’
  • You’re done! Open the bubble and viola!

I confirm that this works as I tried it with a PSX game called Spyro. There are no issues with this plugin if the directory has spaces in between. Have fun with your new PSP custom bubbles! Report any issues to ‘Leecherman’ (aka LMAN). Obviously, you can start cloning bubble to get more shortcuts.

6.61 Adrenaline-5.1 released – Various bug fixes and ability to skip the Adrenaline boot logo

$

TheFlow has updated Adrenaline yet again. This time, it’s a minor release that has some bug fixes but they’re useful nonetheless especially for PSTV users. It’s recommended you do this update as it’s pretty easy to apply if you have a network connection on your device. The Adrenaline-5.1 is strongly recommended for PSTV users as it fixes the network update function.

What’s Adrenaline?

Adrenaline is the infamous ePSP hack for PSVita/PSTV consoles running firnware 3.60 with taiHEN/HENkaku. The main features of it are the ability to play PSP and PSX (with full sound) games but it also has many other features that make it the vastly superior over the normal PSP. These are is cool stuff you could do with Adrenaline:

  • You can use custom screen filters (not only the official Sony one)
  • You can do savestates
  • You can run homebrew that requires 64MB of RAM
  • You can use plugins (such as CXMB)
  • You can easily update Adrenaline via Network Update in XMB as you would do on a normal PSP
  • Many other features!

What’s been added/updated in 6.61 Adrenaline-5.1?

The following changes/bug fixes have been made:

  • An option has been added in the Settings tab of the Adrenaline menu to skip the adrenaline boot logo.
  • A message explaining the Original graphics filter better has been included. It reads “All graphics related options are not taking effect with the Original rendering mode”.
  • A bug is fixed in which payloadx was not being updated which in turn caused some bugs
  • Fixed the ‘20000006’ bug on the PSTV. PSTV users can now easily update Adrenaline via network update.
  • The PSVita/PSTV’s CPU clock has been changed back to 333MHz from 444MHz when running Adrenaline which may save some battery life.

Adrenaline-5.1 with CXMB and Ika Musume theme

This update is highly recommended as it fixes some issues that might have affected some of you. Follow the links below to download and apply the update yourself if for some reason, you can’t do the normal way via the network update. You can also update via Adrenaline Easy Installer to make the process quicker. You can also change the version of your save states not to lose them.

PSP/PS Vita Release: PSPInstaller Adrenaline Edition

Developer spike_132000 has released an update to PSPInstaller, a utility for the PSP and the PS Vita (in Adrenaline) that lets you download and install PSP Homebrews directly on the console without the need for a computer.

In the author’s own words:

Hi guys, final version of PSPInstaller here for release! I know this has probably been superseded by the new Homebrew Installer that works from the Vita Side, so I thought I’d release this anyway. PSPInstaller is in my opinion, still the number one homebrew store for the PSP.

PSPInstaller is an application for the Playstation Portable games console that allows you to easily install homebrew, themes and more without the need of connecting your PSP to the computer. I have brought this project back after a decent amount of demand on Wololo /Talk. This final version of PSPInstaller is now guaranteed to be online for at least 2 years and more closely resembles PSPInstaller 6. If you find any bugs with the software, please drop me an email. [richard.sparrow@hotmail.co.uk]

Works on Phats, Slims, Brite’s and Go’s as well as under Adrenaline.

Minecraft PSP [Lamecraft Mod] v2.0! – Lamecraft in 2017?

You’d think the PSP homebrew community would be dead today, but fortunately that’s not the case. Even with the VITA scene slowly rising, the PSP scene developers still haven’t given up, and this is the case with Minecraft PSP. Minecraft PSP like many other before it, is a lamecraft mod for the Playstation Portable. Lamecraft is a PSP homebrew that mimics the same concept as the popular PC game that is now available on numerous devices, Minecraft. Lamecraft was one of PSP’s best homebrews back in the day, and also the winner of the PSP Genesis competion in 2011. Although it’s worth mentioning that woolio’s additions to this mod, basically makes it an entirely different game. The amount of features make it actually look like a port of Minecraft based on an older revision.

Minecraft PSP

Minecraft PSP v2.0 – Screenshot 2

I said it before and I’ll say it again, the numerous amount of changes that woolio has made to this makes this an entirely different game compared to the original lamecraft. It’s more based on a survival mode gameplay of minecraft and offers a plethora of new features.

The latest version, 2.0 includes the following changes:

  • .schematic to .lms converter (you can now convert pc worlds to minecraft psp format)
  • Mip-texturing
  • World height increased to 112
  • New world generator
  • Canes are back
  • Fixed dungeons and mob spawners
  • True sheep
  • Grass generation
  • Nice main menu and button sprites
  • Upgraded player physics
  • Sleep in bed player position
  • You can not sleep if monsters are nearby
  • TNT kills mobs
  • 12 music dics
  • All minecraft PC tracks
  • Zombies drop bones if killed by TNT
  • Creepers drop discs if killed by TNT
  • Carpets
  • Redstone blocks, coal blocks, hay bale
  • Hay bale lowers damage if player falls on it
  • Lava infinite source (4 lava blocks)
  • Water busket + Lava = obsidian
  • Lava busket + Water = cobblestone
  • GreenLand preset map

This is definitely something I’d recommend worth checking out, even if you have Minecraft installed on other devices. The fact that this game is actually homebrew, is very impressive. You can find the download link here, or here if you’re using a PSP-1000. The full source code can be found here.

My unexpected encounter with a Sony Engineer

A few weeks ago I was invited to a good friend’s wedding here in Tokyo.

One of the other invitees happened to have studied at the same engineering school as me in France, and we kind of knew each other from these “good ol’ days”. So the groom had decided to sit us at the same table.

We started chit-chatting. “Do you still work for MegaCorp XYZ?”, I asked. “No, he replied, I’ve been working as an engineer for Sony for the past 5 years actually”.

We started discussing what games he was working on. (I’m not going to mention the games here, because I think this could give out too much about that specific person, so I’ll just say he’s been working on some big AAA Title for the PS4.)

Then, out of the blue, he said, with kind of a snarky smile:

“I know you’re the guy behind that hacking site, wololo.net”

That made me uncomfortable. I don’t think I’ve actually ever met someone from Sony in real life, who knew I was into hacking their ***. Having worked for a decade in Tokyo in the IT industry, I’ve worked with many people who have been Sony employees, but I don’t think any of them knew, or cared, about this tiny hacking blog.

I think making me uncomfortable for a minute was the effect he was looking for. Then he relaxed, and told me:

“You know, there’s Sony’s official stance as a company, and there’s what we think on the engineering side. It’s pretty well known internally that our SDKs are quite terrible, so we’re always amazed at what some of you guys were able to do on the PSP with made-from-scratch SDKs. Sometimes, we’d read these hacking websites and be like: ‘how did they do that? That’s really awesome!”

I guess it makes sense, and in a way I’ve always assumed this is how it works. Sony as a company needs to protect its business, but I’m convinced that some of their tech employees are as fascinated as I am with the work of hackers. Who can be an engineer and not be excited by the art of people who manage to get devices do something people never imagined they would?

In an awkward way, I’m not sure why, but I concluded the conversation with “oh, well, you know, I was super into it back in the PSP days, but now I only follow this kind of thing distantly”. Not sure why I said that. Maybe because as a grown up with a grown up life, it feels weird to admit I’m still 200% excited by console homebrew? Well, if he or his colleagues read this article at some point, now you know 🙂

We quickly stopped discussing. It was a wedding, and our wives were getting annoyed at the two geeks chatting about PS4 games and stuff.

CSPSP 1.92+ updated to R8 (Adrenaline supported for online play) and Camera Patch Lite updated

CSPSP is quite a unique homebrew since it’s one of the few homebrew out there that has multiplayer functionality. Originally developed by Kevin Chen, /wololo talk user “UnLuck3R” took matters into his own hands and updated the homebrew many times to give a better experience.

What CSPSP is and what got updated

CSPSP is a top-down view shooting game for the PSVita. As the name suggests, it drew inspiration from Counter Strike and this is evident in both the weapons and the maps. While CSPSP is preferably played with other people online, you could also play it alone since it has a single player mode included in which you play against bots generated by the device. Thanks to the fact that

In-game screenshot of single player mode

you can remap the L/R trigger to the right analogue stick makes playing the game much easier on the PSVita.

CSPSP 1.92+ revision 8 brings about the following changes:

  • Adrenaline users can now play CSPSP online. That being said, PSP users are advised to hold onto r7.1 since r8 has a bug which forces you to log in every time you play online.

To play, simply download the game from the link below, put it onto your Vita via FTP/USB, log in (you can make a new account in the game itself) and play away!

Hopefully, the community of this game will grow to a sizeable number (even if it’s just a few dozen players) since the game holds quite a lot of potential especially on the PSVita thanks to the right analogue stick!

What Camera Patch Lite is and what got updated

Camera Patch Lite is a plugin by ‘Freakler’ that adds right analogue stick support (usually for aiming/looking) to a whole variety of games instead of just one game. This plugin is meant to make PSP games more enjoyable for PSVita users since having a right analogue stick for certain controls makes life much easier in some games.

Camera Patch Lite version 1.1 brings about the following:

  • Some games were added to the list of supported games.
  • Settings are no longer hardcoded since you can now edit the ‘camera_patch_lite.ini’ file yourself.
  • The games that ‘TheFlow’ already made a native patch for aren’t allowed to use Camera Patch Lite by default. You should use ‘TheFlow”s native patches for them. The native patch he released is called GTA Remastered Controls Patch, about which you can read from the link below.

    Camera Patch Light

Camera Patch Light lets you use both analogue sticks for PSP games on a variety of games!

It is worth noting that you could also assign certain button combinations to the right analogue stick with the official PSVita settings. If you have any issues regarding this plugin, contact ‘Freakler’ on Twitter or GitHub.

Adrenaline-6 released – Base game/activation no longer needed!

Adrenaline, one of the most popular pieces of software for the PSVita/PSTV, got updated so that everybody could use it! Thanks to Adrenaline-6, you can now use Adrenaline (a.k.a the infamous ePSP hack for HENkaku-enabled Vitas/PSTVs) even if you haven’t activated your device (or have a basegame).

What’s Adrenaline?

This ePSP hack is one of the biggest reasons for which you should get a PSVita/PSTV running 3.60. It has the following features:

  • PSP ISO/CSO support so you can virtually play all dumped PSP games. You can dump your own legally-owned games!
  • PSX game support (via PSX2PSP) with sound support.
  • Support for PSP plugins, even CXMB works!
  • Ability to use ux0,ur0 and uma0 as the partition where your PSP files are located.
  • Full XMB so you could get the authentic PSP experience.
  • Homebrews that need 64MB of RAM (i.e ones that need a PSP Slim/2000+) are supported since unlike with other ePSP hacks, with Adrenaline, 64MB is allocated to the PSP emulator.
  • Now, you don’t even need activation or a base game to use it.
  • Many other features including save states and screen filters.

What got updated/changed in Adrenaline-6?

This is what got updated/changed in Adrenaline-6:

  • To use Adrenaline, you don’t need an activated PSTV/Vita and a base game! This means that you could use Adrenaline on virtually any PSVita/PSTV on FW 3.60.
  • Uma0 can now be used as the partition where your PSP files are located (Memory stick location becomes uma0:/pspemu). imc0: can now also be used.

Using uma0 as your memory stick location!

  • Support for longer ISO file names got added.
  • Some bugs were fixed and the core was updated.
  • You get a bubble for Adrenaline with a custom theme when you install it.
  • The installation process got changed and now you must install a VPK to install/update Adrenaline. The Network Update function doesn’t work when trying to update from Adrenaline-5.1 so you must install Adrenaline-6 manually. The 6.61 PBP gets downloaded from the new installer so you need to be connected to the internet to install Adrenaline-6.

There are two important release notes to read before installing:

  1. Add “ux0:app/PSPEMUCFW/sce_module/adrenaline_kernel.skprx” to the *KERNEL section of taiHEN’s config.txt and reboot your device. It’s recommended you do this since Adrenaline-6’s installer didn’t want to open after downloading the PSP firmware 6.61 file for me before adding this line. I also removed the line that pointed to adrenaline.skprx from the config.txt file to avoid any conflicts.
  2. If you had Adrenaline already installed, it is advised you remove or rename “ux0:adrenaline” to avoid any conflicts.
  3. (Extra) Save states from older versions can no longer be used so make sure you do a proper save before updating Adrenaline.

Conclusion

After reading the release notes above, you can download and install the VPK from the link below. If you have any issues report them to “TheFlow” on GitHub/Twitter in a civil manner.

Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK edition released for Adrenaline-6: Setup process easier than ever with VPKs

ePSP game bubbles have been something that a lot of PSVita users have desired on FW 3.60 for quite a while as they were available on some older ePSP hacks. Now, thanks to “leecherman”, you may install ePSP game bubbles of your favourite games in LiveArea without fiddling around with plugins since the custom bubbles are now in VPK format!

A custom ePSP bubble of GoW: Ghost of Sparta!

What’s Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK Edition?

As its name suggests, Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK Edition lets you create an ePSP bubble in LiveArea so you can directly start your PSP games from there. While previous releases made you fiddle around with taiHEN’s config.txt as they were in plugin form, this version makes life easier.

Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK Edition supports Adrenaline-6 and has a great UI for creating the bubble. To install a custom bubble, this is what you need to do:

  • Install “‘AdrBubbleBooterInstaller.vpk” bundled in the RAR file below and open it so that you have the required files installed to actually use LiveArea bubbles created with Adrenaline Bubble Booter Creator. Obviously Adrenaline-6 needs to be installed to use this.

    Adrenaline Bubble Booter Creator!

  • Fill in the fields in the Adrenaline Bubble Booter Creator application bundled in the RAR file so that you can create and customise your bubble to your liking. You need to put in information such as the game path (from ms0:) and the images you want to use for the LiveArea bubble. You may leave some image fields empty and the default images will be used instead.
  • That’s it! Install the VPK you created with Adrenaline Bubble Booter Creator on your PSVita and enjoy your new bubble!

Important: Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get the created VPKs to install when I put in my images. VitaShell returned error 0x8010113D and according to online questions, it seems to have something to do with the PNG files not being properly processed for LiveArea. I have tried processing the PNG files (ICON0 and PIC0) with pngquant (they are directly from the ISO itself) but they still didn’t work. Fortunately, VPKs still install if you only change the bubble name. Hopefully, this will be rectified in a future release.

Conclusion

To get this utility/hack, follow the link below. If you have any issues, report them to “leecherman” in a civil manner so that we get fully functional ePSP game bubbles on our HENkaku-enabled PSVita/PSTVs soon!

Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK Edition version 0.2 released – Import images directly from the ISO/CSO/SFO/PBP file of your game!

A few days ago, “leecherman” released his Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK edition which let you add LiveArea bubbles of your PSP games on Firmware 3.60 quite easily. Now, he decided to upgrade his utility to make it even easier to create decent bubbles for your Vita.

What’s Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK Edition?

Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK Edition is utility/hack that lets you add Adrenaline-based ePSP bubbles to LiveArea. With the creator utility, you can change the name of the bubble and its various images (background, icon, etc). After you create a custom bubble with the Creator tool, a VPK is outputted and you can simply install that onto your Vita via VitaShell. Sounds simple, right? Yep, it is very simple and with this update, the process has been made even quicker! To run the creator tool, you need to have a computer that can run .NET framework 4.0 applications. Before using any bubbles created by the creator tool, you need to install “AdrBubbleBooterInstaller.vpk” from version 0.1 of the tool which installs the required files for using bubbles created with this tool.

A custom ePSP bubble of GoW: Ghost of Sparta!

What changed/got updated in Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK Edition version 0.2?

Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK Edition version 0.2 brings along the following:

  • The ability to grab the title and images of a game from its ISO/CSO/PBP or SFO file. To do this, you need to have the game file you wish to use on your computer. Don’t try it via Windows Explorer’s FTP function as it crashed the Bubble Creator for me!
  • Ability to create bubbles with PSPEMU/PSMOBILE templates.
  • Icon0 styles names got updated.
  • Some more improvements.

The most important part of this update is that now, you don’t need to extract the PIC0 and ICON0 files from the ISO file via an archiving utility so the process of creating visually-appealing bubbles has now been made easier. (That being said, the bubble creator does have some bugs and I can’t create a bubble with custom image files as it just returns “Object reference not set to an instance of an object”). His contact page on his Google Sites page doesn’t seem very convincing so this article

Adrenaline Bubble Booter VPK Edition 0.2

is in a way a bug report. Hopefully, he creates a Twitter/GitHub account so that bugs can be easily reported! It’s a real shame that the Creator utility doesn’t work as is :/ IT TURNS OUT THAT IT ONLY DIDN’T WORK ON WINDOWS 7 32-BIT FOR SOME REASON, IT WORKS JUST FINE ON WINDOWS 7 64-BIT!

Conclusion

To get this utility/hack, you can follow the link below to the download links. As for now, I recommend sticking to the fixed-up version 0.2 if you use 64-bit Windows but you should check out the fixed-up version 0.1 if it doesn’t work properly.
